Stutenweg – Garden of Remembrance

Jüdische Geschichte

This "Orchard of Memory" is meant to be a place to pause and contemplate. It is also supposed to be a place of remembrance commemorating all the Jewish citizens who used to live in Freudental for more than 200 years and the horrible incidents which lead to their disappearance. More than 200 years in which Jews belonged to the local community in Freudental just as much as Christians, in which they lived in close neighbourhood both in harmony and in case of conflict and considered Freudental to be their home. Common meeting places for all of them were these farmer gardens and orchards. They gave fruit and joy to all Jewish and Christian citizens and they still characterise our landscape.

Descendants of Jews from Freudental initialised this "Orchard of Memory", voluntary civil involvement played a decisive role in the successful implementation of it. You can use your smartphone or tablet and make it a starting and resting point of a walking tour through Freudental and its history.
